Relighting the Past documents the process of preparing six historic neon signs from the Center for Sacramento History for installation at the Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento. Developed by producer Chris Lango, the short film features footage of and interviews about the sign’s rehabilitation process from storage to installation. The six iconic signs include the following former Sacramento businesses: Coronet Portraits, Franke’s Drugs, Newbert Hardware, Shakey’s Pizza, Sleeper Stamp and Stationery, and Tower Records.
For further information about how the Center was able to partner with the Sacramento Kings, the Golden 1 Center, and Pacific Neon Company to preserve our city’s neon heritage.
